Defibrillator Campaign 2008
Due to the recent influx
of chest injuries in youth sports across the country, Dover Parks
& Recreation is already underway with a campaign to place Defibrillators
at all of the playing fields in Dover. A Defibrillator will be placed
at the Chickering Playfields, Caryl Tennis Courts, Caryl Park Soccer
fields, and hopefully at Chickering School, Caryl School, and the
High School field as well.
All coaches for Soccer,
Lacrosse, Softball & Baseball using the above facilities will
be required to be certified to use Defibrillators. There will be
a free training course offered during the following times in the
Caryl School Library:
March 18th - 6:30 &
7:30 pm
March 20th - 6:30 & 7:30 pm
* There is a maximum
of 15 people allowed in each class. To sign up for a date and time
please call the Recreation Office at 508-785-0476. We will sign
people up on a first call, first serve basis. *
NEW
- Four defibrillators
have already been ordered and are expected to be installed at the
fields as soon as we receive them. The four defibrillators will
be placed at the Caryl Park pump house, the Caryl Park Tennis courts,
the backstop of the Chickering baseball field, and one in the Parks
& Recreation office in the Caryl School. A training device has
also been purchased to assist with future training sessions for
coaches. We are currently awaiting approval to place a device in
Chickering School as well.
All coaches who have
been certified to use an A.E.D. (Defibrillator) should have received
their cards in the mail with the lock combination to open the deviced
at the fields. Please contact our office with any questions.
We do plan on holding
training sessions in the Fall & Spring each year to assure coaches
are properly trained on a year to year basis. Please call the Recreation
Office at 785-0476 with any questions.
Private Donations
are being accepted to raise money for the equipment. If you would
like to contribute to this cause you may send a donation made payable
to the "Town of Dover," to Parks & Recreation, P.O.
box 250, Dover, MA 02030.
Thank you to
all of those that have contributed!
